Talented, respected, and enthusiastic are words that describe nationally known Mary Hart. She was born Mary Johanna Harum on November 8, 1951, in Madison, South Dakota. Mary lived in Sioux Falls, SD, and graduated from Augustana College in 1972. She reigned as Miss South Dakota in 1970 and was one of the top ten runners-up as Miss America. It was during this competition that she was inspired to begin broadcasting when she realized how much she enjoyed being interviewed on television.
While teaching English at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, she hosted a local cable show on KELOland TV. Then Mary moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she added television and radio shows to her experience. In 1976, she became known statewide as the co-host of Dannysday, a noontime talk show on the NBC affiliate. To further her career, she moved to California where she performed in national commercials and hosted PM Magazine. In 1981 she co-hosted The Regis Philbin Show. When the series was canceled a short time later, Mary was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight (ET) about how it felt to be canceled. Mary Hart (born Mary Johanna Harum; November 8, 1950[1]) is an American television personality. She was the host (1982–2011) of the syndicated gossip and entertainment round-up television program Entertainment Tonight.[2] She was Miss South Dakota 1970.
