Wally King was born in Courtland, Ohio on October 31, After enlisting in the U.S. Army, he was assigned to the 9th Air Force Division as a Private. Shortly after, he became an aviation cadet and eventually a 1st Lieutenant.
During his service, Wally flew 75 combat missions as a fighter pilot in Ps & Ps. It was his mission to shoot at the Germans and keep them at bay so the American transports could drop supplies and provide close air support for Allied forces during the Battle of the Bulge. In March of , his squadron attacked flak positions along the Rhine River, allowing Allied paratroopers to deploy in Operation Varsity.
